2022 Subject to Change 'Party Monster' Pet Nat

Carignan, Grenache, Petite Sirah from Mendocino

Not to be confused with their other wine ‘Monster Party’, a sparkling red wine; ‘Party Monster’ is the original rose Pet Nat from the winery. Their last vintage which is currently on the shelf didn’t go sparkling (although it’s still the perfect still rose) this year it's firing on all cylinders. The grapes for this wine come from Redwood Valley which is east off the 101 just after the town of Calpella. Planted in the 1960’s these old vine grapes are purchased from Dorn Vineyard, a family run operation who Alex has been working with for a few vintages now. The grapes are certified organic and the vineyard also grows fruit which they sell as juice throughout the year. Party Monster is made in Methode Ancestrale, where the bubbles are a byproduct of secondary fermentation. It is a really risky way (and diffcult to control) method to make sparkling wine but when the wine hits, it hits. It is by far the oldest way of making sparkling wine. You’ll see a good amount of sediment in the bottle as the wine is not disgorged. Once the wine is cold and has had time to settle to the bottom you can easily pour leaving all the sediment behind, or drink it, that’s totally safe. As the name suggests this is a wine for any and every party. The wine is fruity, textural and fizzy and won’t explode upon opening. All of the shop crew got a ton of lime flavored jelly and apple notes but the wine does change quite a bit from start to finish. Get the wine ice cold before enjoying it.

Pairing Recommendations: A great wine to start the party as an aperitivo with cheese and charcuterie, especially if you have some fruity apricot jam, marmalade or honeycomb on the plate. Great with fruity desserts as there is a little touch of sugar in the wine. Perfect for spicy Thai food or Szechuan, amazing with richer seafood like uni or tuna belly.
